When The Allergy Station was launched in 2018, Dr Miller was quite familiar with the benefits of telehealth. He was interviewed by Diedre Fitzpatrick on KCRA TV in March 2018 about the benefits of this platform.
Last year, Dr Miller was approached by a company based in Berkeley and San Francisco. Dr. Miller met with their CEO and scientific team to discuss a partnership, and explore the power of home monitors for asthma patients.
“Last year when ALUNA reached out to us to partner as a beta site for this device, I quickly realized it was a perfect match for our (telehealth) platform, ” Dr. Miller explained. “We have patients who are 15, 50, 500 and 5000 miles away from our office. We desperately needed this technology and partnership to leverage telehealth and support our patients. We’ve been extremely pleased with the roll-out. And in these trying times, we intend to continue using it to support our patients in a safe fashion”.
The device is called Aluna iO. We use it to track asthma by pure telemedicine.
Patients monitor once or twice a day. It inputs data into the Aluna App on their iPhone. (An Android App is in the works.)
With this technology, patients and parents can then securely transmit their data to us for review and a telehealth consult. We have reduced in-office appointments in patients using this technology by 50-90% while maintaining control of their asthma. This was our goal all along.
